Marvel TV will have soon introduced four “street-level” superheroes (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) to the Marvel Cinematic Universe through its Netflix series. The plan from the get-go was to eventually unite them with a Netflix crossover mini-series, titled The Defenders. And now, that is exactly what is happening.
The Defenders is slated to begin filming near the end of this year and has already secured its showrunners, in the forms of Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez: the duo that oversaw season 2 of Marvel’s Daredevil series. Starring in the Defenders TV “event” will be Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Kristen Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist. It’s not clear yet if Jon Bernthal’s Punisher will also make an appearance.
Marvel debuted the teaser trailer for The Defenders during its San Diego Comic-Con 2016 panel for Luke Cage, but the video is now available for watching online (see above). Said teaser also confirms that the heroes of Hell’s Kitchen (and Harlem, in Cage’s case) will unite sometime in 2017.

Daredevil season 1 & 2 and Jessica Jones season 1 are now available on Netflix. Luke Cage season 1 will arrive on September 30th, 2016. The Defenders and Iron Fist arrive in 2017. Release dates for Jessica Jones season 2, The Punisher and Daredevil season 3 have not yet been announced.
