In the years to come, when a studio marketing team wants to know how to get people talking about their offbeat, somewhat wacky or unpredictable action movie, they’ll need look no further than the campaign for Suicide Squad. The movie once seen as an underdog for DC Films and Warner Bros. came out swinging – hard – with not one, but two full-length trailers calling on insane visuals, snappy one-liners, more than a little action, and some incredible song choices.

The result? The Squad now stands poised to challenge Guardians of the Galaxy at the box office , adding to those odds by releasing trailers focusing on each member of the team: Joker , Harley , Deadshot , Amanda Waller and more expected to come. But with Warner Bros. coming to San Diego Comic-Con 2016 in a big way, it’s no surprise that their potential homerun hitter came with them, just weeks ahead of theatrical release.

Alongside other DC properties like Wonder Woman and Justice League, the studio brought with it a special Suicide Squad trailer for the fans in attendance. That preview is now online too and can be viewed above.

What do you think of Suicide Squad‘s chances with moviegoers outside of the devoted comic fan base? Does it seem too weird to be a bona fide blockbuster juggernaut, or has its marketing shown how to get even casual viewers’ attention (the weirder, the better)?
