New York Comic Con has grown by leaps and bounds since its inception a decade ago, from attendance in the 33,000 range to last year’s record of 170,000 fans. It will take place this year from October 6th to the 9th at the Jarvis Center in New York City, and the schedules are currently being announced for the various panels to promote upcoming television and movie projects.
Among them, FX will be in attendance to promote the eighth season of fan-favorite animated spy series Archer, as well as a new upcoming Marvel show called Legion, a spinoff of the X-Men franchise, in which Dan Stevens (The Guest) plays a man who believes himself to be mentally ill, but who discovers that he’s actually a powerful mutant. The panel is set to include a new sneak peek at the show, and a Q&A with the cast and creators.
The FX panels will take place in the Hammerstein Ballroom. The Archer panel will run on Thursday, October 6, 2016, from 6:45 PM to 7:45 PM with a sneak peek at the upcoming season of the show. Legion is an Omega-level mutant that was created in 1985 by X-Men comics legend Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, first appearing in the pages of New Mutants #25. David Haller is the troubled but powerful son of Charles Xavier and Gabrielle Haller. His powerful mutant abilities include telepathy, telekinesis, time travel, pyrokineis and reality warping. David also suffers from dissociative identity disorder, commonly known as multiple personalities. Legion has dozens of personalities, all of which are devastatingly powerful and usually highly destructive. Of course, it’s currently unknown how closely the TV show will stick to the source material, though we got an idea of David’s powers this summer thanks to a trailer shown at the San Diego Comic Con.
Legion marks the first show from Marvel Television that isn’t set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show is a standalone addition to the X-Men franchise, being (as we currently understand it) set in a parallel universe where the existence of mutants is not public knowledge.
Legion will premiere on FX in early 2017.
