[SPOILERS for Stranger Things season 1 ahead.]

Season 1 of Netflix’s sci-fi thriller Stranger Things premiered over the summer and quickly garnered attention from critics and casual TV viewers alike, becoming one of the streaming service’s most popular series . The debut season of Matt and Ross Duffer’s show followed the town of Hawkins, Indiana after a young boy, Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), went missing . While Will’s mother Joyce (Winona Ryder) worked with police chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) to find him, his friends discovered something else in the woods where he disappeared: A young girl named Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) who possessed strong telekinetic powers.

However, the season 1 finale — which saw Eleven and her friends fight off the Demogorgon while Joyce and Jim rescued Will from the Upside Down — concluded with the fate of Eleven unknown. She disappeared in the process of seemingly destroying the Demogorgon , but Jim was later seen leaving Eggos (Eleven’s favorite food) in a container in the woods. Now, a new report for season 2 has seemingly answered fan questions about whether Eleven will return to Stranger Things.

TV Line (http://tvline.com/2016/11/01/stranger-things-millie-bobby-brown-returning-season-2-eleven-netflix/) is reporting that their sources confirm the return of Brown as Eleven for Stranger Things season 2, though Netflix declined to comment. The report speculates Brown will be a series regular again, ensuring Eleven remains a major part of the Stranger Things story for all nine episodes . However, it’s unclear when Eleven will return in the story, whether in the premiere or later in season 2.

Aside from Eleven, the majority of Stranger Things‘ season 1 cast is set to return, including Jim Hopper, Joyce, Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin), Dustin Henderson (Gaten Matarazzo), Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer), and Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton). Additionally, both Schnapp as Will and Joe Keery’s Steve Harrington have been promoted to series regulars. Joining Stranger Things in season 2 are Sadie Sink (American Odyssey) and Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers) as siblings Max and Billy, respectively.

Of course, considering Eleven’s popularity — showcased in the number of Halloween costumes dedicated to the character this year — fans will be excited to learn she will likely be returning for Stranger Things season 2. However, until it’s confirmed by Netflix (or Brown is spotted on set), it remains to be seen if Eleven’s return will actually occur. Considering the mystery of her disappearance in the season 1 finale , it seems unlikely the Duffer brothers or Netflix will show their hand in terms of Brown’s return until much closer to the release of Stranger Things season 2.

That said, with the Duffers working on season 2 even prior to the premiere of season 1 , it may not be too long of a wait until Stranger Things returns to Netflix. As such, fans may not need to wait too long before receiving official word on Eleven’s return — though it may be kept secret until season 2 premieres.

Stranger Things season 1 is currently available on Netflix. Season 2 is currently in production and is expected to arrive in 2017.
